For those of you that didn't come on Friday night, you missed a STELLAR concert. The Lyso centre was ROCKIN'! Concert For A Bright Future was organized by Sam Joo and sponsored by the National Honors society. It had an unbelievable lineup. All proceeds from the night go to Dongdaewon.
First Up was U-Angel - a Korean popera group. At this point ... I had forgotten about the video recorder on my iphone, so no footage was shot!
Second up was the electronic string trio - F.Sharp. Here is a taste of what they gave the audience Friday night ...

The final act were the Jinjo crew - currently number one in the world for b-boys and they were incredible! You can see one of their numbers below as well - this one brought the house down!

6 year old pianist Hyun Soo also made his debut. He is blind and has a dream to be a pianist. He did an excellent job and was supported by his family.
A great concert. If you weren't there, you should have been. Make a point to be there next year :)

How Has The Dongdaewon Work Changed?
For many years, the Eugene Bell Foundation focused on partnering with care centres, taking a holistic approach to treating TB. Up until 2009, we worked with them to provide a resupply kit. This kit included DOTs medicine for regular TB patients, some agricultural supplies and resupplies for the xray machines, microscopes etc. For more information about how we used to support Dongdaewon and where our funds went, click here.
Since 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) has been providing DOTs treatment for regular TB patients in North Korea. However, there is a burgeoning problem with MDR TB. Eugene Bell are now focusing all their work on treating MDR patients, as there is a desperate need and not the resources to meet this need. The WHO's goal is to pick up 50 MDR patients by 2014. Many people are concerned about us sending money to North Korea. We don't send money, the money we raise goes to Eugene Bell and they buy medicine and set up medicine boxes for each MDR patient - every box is tailor made for the needs of that particular patient.

About Jon
Jon began serious photography in college with a hand-me-down all-manual camera from his dad. He learned the basics and dabbled in the darkroom. His passion really took off with the purchase of his first digital camera in 1999, coinciding with his move to Tanzania. There his love for nature and travel photography took hold. He has had photographs published in a few travel magazines and has self-published photos and articles on his photography website, www.safarishots.com.
As a teacher at SFS, Jon has also refined his techniques for event photography, taking advantage of drama productions, sports, and other events. Becoming a father has also naturally pushed him into portrait and candid shooting. The busy-ness of family and professional life has limited his ability to get out and take photos and publish to his website in recent years, but the passion is still there.
